The DAAD Information Centre Toronto and the Goethe-Institut Toronto are pleased to be presenting an information session for Toronto-area university students on Thursday, October 13th at the Goethe-Institut office at 100 University Avenue, Suite #201 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

This session will provide information on DAAD's suite of scholarship and grant programs open to Canadian students in all fields and all stages of study (Bachelor, Masters or PhD). Representatives of the Goethe-Institut will be on hand to give details on their language programs and language certification/testing services.

DAAD together with DFG - German Research Foundation and the University of Calgary are pleased to present the German Research Information Breakfast at Congress 2016 in Calgary on Tuesday, May 31st from 8:00 to 10:00 am in the Atrium, Energy Environment Experiential Learning (EEEL) Building.

This information session will provide faculty, postdocs and PhD students with an overview of Germany's vibrant research landscape, useful tools for identifying potential collaborators and details on funding opportunities open to Canadian scholars through DFG (German Research Foundation), DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and their partner organizations.

Eva Ledwig (Goethe-Institut Montréal) and Ulrike Kugler (Goethe-Institut Toronto) will introduce Goethe-Institut Canada’s online resources in the field of teaching German as a foreign language, as well as “Deutsch Lehren Lernen” (DLL), a new series of professional development and continuing education courses offered by the Goethe-Institut for German teachers around the world, and the WE GO.DEsign competition of the University of Waterloo which highlights the benefits of a cooperation between Universities and High Schools.

The DAAD Information Centre Toronto will be on the campus of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology on Wednesday, January 27th to offer an information session. This session will be given by Dr. Alexandra Gerstner, Director of the DAAD Information Centre, and will introduce the German research landscape and a variety of funding programs to support research activities in Germany and/or with German partners.

This session will be presented by Dr. Alexandra Gerstner, the Director of the DAAD Information Centre Toronto, and takes place from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the CIBC Hub Room, Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary, 2500 University Dr NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1N4.

This information session will provide faculty members, postdocs and PhD students with an overview of Germany's vibrant research landscape, useful tools for identifying potential collaborators and information on funding opportunities open to Canadian scholars through the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and its partner organizations. 

The event is jointly hosted by the University of Calgary International Office and the VP Research Office.

Study & Research in Germany Fair, University of British Columbia: Thursday, October 22nd

DAAD Information Centre Toronto will be on the main campus of the University of British Columbia on Thursday, October 22nd from 2:00 to 4:30 pm for a Study & Research in Germany Fair. This fair will take place in the Multipurpose Room of the Michael Smith Laboratories building (2185 The East Mall) and will feature representatives from DAAD and more than ten of Germany's leading universities of science and technology.

From 2:00 to 3:00 pm, an information session for students will run in the Michael Smith Laboratories Auditorium. This session will include details on the DAAD's student-oriented support programs and on opportunities in Germany open to UBC students through the university's Go Global Office.

faculty information session will take place in the MSL Auditorium from 3:00 to 4:00 pm and provide an overview of the German research landscape as well as DAAD programs to facilitate faculty and postdoc research stays and the development of collaborative projects with German colleagues.  


 German Higher Education Virtual Fair: Friday, October 9th

Study in Germany will present the 2nd German Higher Education Virtual Fair for the USA and Canada on Friday, October 9th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm EDT. This fair provides an opportunity for attendees to interact with representatives from a number of German universities and ask their questions about pursuing degree studies in Germany.

Representatives of DAAD North America will also be on hand to answer questions about DAAD's scholarship and grant programs which facilitate study and research in Germany.

On Monday, October 5th at 1 pm EST (10 am PST), DAAD North America will be pleased to offer a webinar providing details on DAAD's student oriented scholarship and grant programs to facilitate study, research and internships in Germany during the 2016-17 academic year.

DAAD Alumni Conference in Toronto

The DAAD Information Centre Toronto was pleased to host a conference for alumni of both the DAAD and our partner organization the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation on May 1-2, 2015 in Toronto. The theme of this meeting was "Multiculturalism and Migration in Germany and Canada" and featured presentations by Canadian and German scholars on the conference theme from a number of disciplinary perspectives. In addition to alumni, the event was attended by Dr. Dorothea Rueland, DAAD Secretary General, H.E. Werner Wnendt, the Ambassador of Germany to Canada and Mr. Walter Stechel, Consul General of Germany in Toronto.

The DAAD Information Centre will be at the University of Waterloo on Thursday, November 27th to present information sessions to both faculty and students interested in pursuing study and research in Germany. Details on each of these sessions is found below.

 

Research in Germany - Faculty Information Session - 10:30 - 11:30 am in QNC Room 1501

This session will introduce information on the DAAD's faculty-oriented mobility opportunities as well as several of the organization's programs designed to support the carrying out of collaborative teaching activities between Canadian universities and their German institutional partners. In addition, some information will be presented on the support programs offered by other important players on the German research landscape including the Max Planck Society, German Research Foundation (DFG) and others.

DAAD Information Sessions at University of Ottawa - Wednesday, November 19th

On Wednesday, November 19th, the DAAD Information Centre Toronto will be at the University of Ottawa to present two information sessions. The details for each session can be found below.

Student Information Session - 1:00 - 2:00 pm in Hagen Hall, Room 1501

This session will provide detailed information on the DAAD's scholarship and grant programs that are open to students in all disciplines and at all stages of their academic careers. Research in Germany - Faculty Information Session - 2:30 - 3:30 pm in Hagen Hall, Room 1501

 

This session will introduce information on the DAAD's faculty-oriented mobility opportunities as well as several of the organization's programs designed to support the carrying out of collaborative teaching activities between Canadian universities and their German institutional partners. In addition, some information will be presented on the support programs offered by other important players on the German research landscape including the Max Planck Society, German Research Foundation (DFG) and others.


DAAD at Western University's International Learning Fair - November 13th 

The DAAD Information Centre Toronto will be on hand at this year's International Learning Fair at Western University in London, Ontario that is taking place on Thursday, November 13th from 10 am to 3 pm in the UCC Atrium. John Paul Kleiner from the IC Toronto along with Dragana Prvulovic, the DAAD's Young Ambassador at Western, will be present to provide information on our scholarship and grant programs and maybe even set you up with some swell DAAD swag! In addition, details will be given on activities currently funded at Canadian universities by other German research organizations including the Max Planck Society, German Research Foundation (DFG) and others.

The DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service will be at the main campus of the University of British Columbia on Tuesday, October 14th for a student information session intended to provide details of the DAAD's suite of student-oriented scholarship and grant programs. The DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service will be at the main campus of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver on Wednesday, October 15th for two information sessions to the university community.

Student Information Session
The first of these sessions will present details of the DAAD's student-oriented scholarship and grant programs and will run from 11:30 am to 12:20 pm in "Student Central", Maggie Bentson Centre. Along with representatives from the DAAD's Toronto Information Centre, Ms. Christiana Lian, the DAAD's Young Ambassador at SFU, will also be on hand to report on her experiences studying in Germany and answer any questions attendees may have.

"Research in Germany" Information Session for Faculty
The second session for SFU faculty is entitled "Research in Germany" and will take place in the IRMACS Presentation Centre (ASB 10900)  from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. This session will provide an overview of the major players in the German research landscape and information on how to identify potential collaborators and funding opportunities, from the DAAD as well as a number of Germany's other non-university research institutions.


 

DAAD Information Sessions at University of Victoria - Thursday, October 16th 

The DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service will be on campus at the University of Victoria on Thursday, October 16th for two information sessions.

Student Information Session
This session will provide details on the DAAD's student-oriented support program including scholarships and grants. It will run from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the David Strong building, Room C128.

"Research in Germany" Information Session for Faculty
During this session will present an overview of the German research landscape including its major players, information on how to identify potential collaborators and funding opportunities, from both the DAAD as well as a number of Germany's non-university research institutions. This event will take place from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Welcome Centre of the University Centre Building.

 


 

Study and Go Abroad Fair in Toronto: October 4-5, 2014

The DAAD Information Centre Toronto will be on hand at the upcoming Study and Go Abroad Fair taking place in Toronto on Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (Constitution Halls 105-106, North Building, 225 Front Street). We'll be providing attendees with information on our many scholarship and grant programs for study and research in Germany as well details of how to pursue an entire degree in Germany. Colleagues from the German consulate and Toronto Goethe-Institut will also attend at various points during the weekend, so be sure to drop by and say hello!

DAAD at Go Global Expos in Toronto and Montreal

The DAAD Information Centre Toronto is pleased to announce that it will be in attendance at the popular Go Global Expos in both Toronto and Montreal this September. Staff will be on hand to provide information on both the DAAD's scholarship and grant programs as well as the possibilities for degree studies in Germany.

The Go Global Expo in Toronto will take place at the Mattamy Centre at Maple Leaf Gardens (50 Carlton Street) on Saturday, September 20th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, September 21st from noon to 5 pm.

In Montreal, the Go Global Expo is on Saturday, September 27th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Palais de Congrès (159 Rue St-antoine O).


Student Information Session in Montreal: Friday, September 26th

On Friday, September 26th at 3:00 pm, representatives of the DAAD Information Centre and the Montreal Goethe Institut will give an information session for Montreal-area university students at the Goethe Institut's offices at 1626 Boulevard Saint-Laurent. At this session, the DAAD will provide details on the its suite of scholarship and grant programs as well as on the pursuit of degree studies in Germany, while representatives of the Goethe Institut will highlight the German language courses and testing they have on offer. While the presentation will be in English, questions in French are welcome.


 

DAAD Information Centre at Congress

The DAAD's Toronto Information Centre is pleased to announce that it will be present at the Congress of the Social Sciences and the Humanities taking place at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario at the end of May. The DAAD will be present at the Congress Expo from Saturday, May 24th through Tuesday, May 27th to provide Congress participants with information on the DAAD's suite of grant programs for faculty, postdocs and students along with general information on research in Germany.

Student Information Session at University of Toronto - Wednesday, March 26th

The DAAD Toronto Information Centre will be giving an information session for students of the University of Toronto on Wednesday, March 26th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the Library of U of T's German Department on the 3rd floor of Odette Hall. At this session, DAAD Information Officer John Paul Kleiner will give details of the scholarship and grant programs available to both undergraduate and graduate students through the DAAD.

DAAD North America's Annual Student Contest: Poetry Jam
 
Students enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate degree programs at a college or university in Canada or the United States are invited to submit entries to the DAAD's annual student contest. This year's theme is a Poetry Jam and winners will receive some great prizes!
 
CONTEST PRIZES are as follows:
·         1st Prize - Round Trip to Germany
·         2nd Prize - A Camcorder
·         3rd Prize - One year subscription to Granta Magazine  


Participation is both easy and fun! Simply create a video (maximum one minute long) of yourself stating why you'd value the opportunity to study in Germany.
 
The content of the jam may be in English or German or a comprehensible combination of both.

DAAD Young Ambassadors Program Now Accepting Applications

DAAD North America is now accepting applications from undergraduate students interested in becoming a DAAD Young Ambassador. DAAD Young Ambassadors are undergraduate students from North America who have recently studied or interned in Germany and are interested in promoting study in Germany at their home institutions. DAAD has about 30 spots available for students from all over the US and Canada to share with their peers what makes Germany such a unique and attractive destination for study abroad.

 
DAAD Young Ambassadors are responsible for organizing at least one event per semester on their campuses to promote study in Germany. Additionally, they will collaborate with their universities' study abroad offices and other German institutions in their areas to inform their fellow students on educational and research opportunities in Germany. DAAD Young Ambassadors are also available for email inquiries about their respective German host universities, study abroad programs or about life as a student in Germany in general. The application deadline is May 18, 2014.

"Bringing Down the Wall to Study in Germany" - Friday, March 7th

 

The DAAD's Young Ambassador at Toronto's York University, Ashley Gyarmati, has put together an information session on the upside of studying in Germany that will take place on York's Keele campus on Friday, March 7th from 11:15 am to noon in the Accolade East Building, Studio A.

 

The DAAD's Toronto Information Office will be on hand to provide some information on the DAAD's suite of scholarships and grants to facilitate study and research at German universities.

Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowship: Applications Now Being Accepted!

The DAAD has partnered with the Leibniz Institutes to offer a Research Fellowship to highly-qualified international post-docs interested in conducting a research project at one of the eighty-six Leibniz Institutes in Germany. Applications are now being accepted for this program and the deadline for receiving complete applications in paper form in Bonn is March 7, 2014.

The DAAD will be on hand at Montréal's McGill University on Thursday, February 27th for two information sessions in Room 645 of the Bronfman Buliding (1001 rue Sherbrooke Ouest).

The first will present information on the DAAD's student support programs (both undergrad and graduate) and runs from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

From 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, a session entitled "Research in Germany" will provide faculty and postdocs with an overview of the German research landscape and information on funding opportunities offered through the DAAD and some its partner organizations.

The DAAD will be presenting two information sessions at Concordia University in Montréal on the afternoon of Friday, February 28th. The first session will be geared towards undergraduate and graduate students and will run from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in Room X-103, Annex X, Mackay 2080. This session will give an overview to the topic of study in Germany and provide details on the DAAD’s suite of student-oriented scholarship and grant programs.

A second session for faculty with the title "Research in Germany" will take place later Friday afternoon running from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in room 2.139 in the Engineering and Visual Arts Building on Concordia's Williams (downtown) campus.

The DAAD Information Centre will be on hand at the upcoming Study and Go Abroad Fairs in Montreal and Toronto on March 1st and 2nd.

The Montreal fair will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm in the Montreal Convention Centre (Room F-511, top floor, 1001 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle).

In Toronto the fair runs Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 1:00 to 6:00 pm in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (Constitution Halls 105-106, North Building, 255 Front Street West).

The Toronto Information Centre will be on campus at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon on Monday, January 20th to present two information sessions for students and faculty.

Both sessions take place in International Student and Study Abroad Centre, Room 80, Lower Place Riel, 1 Campus Drive, Saskatoon and all are welcome. DAAD Information Sessions at University of Regina - Tuesday, January 21st

John Paul Kleiner from the Toronto Information Centre will be at the University of Regina on Tuesday, January 21st to give three information sessions on the DAAD's scholarship and grant programs for students and faculty. 

The first session is oriented towards students in Science in Engineering and will provide an overview of the scholarships and grants most relevant to them. It will take place in Room 305, Classroom Building between 10:00 and 11:00 am.

A more general student session will take place from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in Room 408 of the Classroom Building. This presentation will give details on scholarships and grants available to both undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines and fields of study.

The faculty session entitled "Research in Germany" will run from 1:30 to 2:30 pm in Room 408 of the Classroom Building. It will provide an overview of the German research landscape and information on resources and funding available through both the DAAD and a number of our partner organizations.
